🌱 How It Works
Red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida) live in the Worm Studio and eat your food scraps. As they digest, they produce worm castings, a nutrient-rich fertilizer for your plants.
The Worm Studio has three stackable layers. As you feed the worms, they naturally migrate upward, leaving finished compost (castings) in the bottom layer for easy harvesting.

My family and I have had our worm bin for about a month now, and we’ve been throughly enjoying every moment of the journey. Sometimes it can be hard to get out and feel connected to nature especially during the winter months in Canada — our Worm Studio has helped immensely with that. I would highly definitely recommend the Box of Life to anyone living in the city or suburbs, where nature is not always accessible to everyone. Our Worm Studio has become a hot-topic of discussion of every guest that has entered our house since we got it, and we are thoroughly impressed with how easy it is to care for and maintain.
Akil and his team take every step to ensure that you are successful. We very much appreciated that he took time out of his busy day to deliver the box to us personally (within the city). It just shows how much he stands by its craftsmanship and its mission. We love how this organization truly represents community-based sustainable living. Thank you Akil & team! You guys rock.
I have had the worm studio for a few weeks now and so far there are no problems. The worms are well-hidden and I don't want to disturb them. I have fed them three times and hope they are enjoying their new life in Vancouver.
I have had a plastic worm composter for 10 years. Starting to break and fall apart. I love the cedar worm composter in comparison. Compact, doesn’t smell and so nice looking that I keep it in my living room. The worm composting instructions were really clear. I am considering getting another one soon.
Akil and his team were very knowledgeable and helped with everything.
My family absolutely loves our new worm studio. We have had time with it (4+ months now) to fully learn about it and share our honest thoughts.
Getting the worms set up was easy and the hardest part is to NOT check in on them all the time, and to let them do their thing :). The parenting guide is super helpful to have, and we have made sure to follow the instructions. Wow, we can sure see the difference in a few months - to begin with the ecosystem was getting established and couldn't go through scraps very quickly. Now the scraps are disappearing much quicker, and we know it'll improve even more!! The studio does not have any unwanted smells - in fact it smells good because of the cedar.
Collecting scraps has also made us more of the waste that we produce and we are more mindful to eat up all of the food that we have bought (or grown!). I wish we had started composting sooner but we're sure enjoying the experience now and are proud to show friends/family our new little pets.
Love, love, love The Box of Life and what they are doing!!!
