The red wiggler mix (650 ml) contains between 100 - 200 earthworms of all ages along with cocoons living in microbe-rich habitat. Our worm mix is ideal for starting a Worm Studio or similar sized worm farms. If you have a bigger system or want to see faster composting results, you could consider getting two mixes.
The secret to a successful worm compost is by thinking about it through an ecosystems approach. Worms do not compost in isolation but rely on beneficial bacteria, fungi and protozoa to help in the decomposition. A well balanced ecosystem encourages worm health and leads to smell and bug free composting.
Our worm mix is harvested from a well balanced ecosystem and will give you the right mix of microbes and worms to get started. Since the worms are not removed from their habitat, they are much more comfortable during transit and settle quickly into their new home - your worm box.
How to use:
- Prepare your worm bin with at least 3 inches of damp bedding
- Add worm mix on the damp bedding and give them a gently mix
- Start feeding immediately with 1 cup of food/week
- You will see best composting results after 3-5 months with one worm mix and 2-3 months with two worm mixes
The worm mix is only available for local Ottawa orders! You will be sent an email/text when your order is ready for pickup.
If you wish to get them shipped to you in Canada, head over to our friends Vers Lavenir.

Good service good quality
Good amount of works per jar.
We are a month in to our vermicomposting adventure and we are in love with our wormies! My toddler loves collecting scraps and deciding what the worms will be fed that week. It’s her job to feed the worms and she looks forward to it every week. She loves them so much I had to stop her putting toys in there for the worms to play with 😆. Akil was quick to answer questions/concerns and provided all the information I needed to confidently start our worm composter. It looks beautiful on our countertop and is very low maintenance - barely takes any time every week to maintain and we haven’t noticed any smell or flies (and our cats have shown zero interest). I look forward to harvesting some nutritious worm castings for our plants and learning more about worms along the way! I recommend them to any playgroup, classroom, family or individual!
I was happy to receive a healthy bunch of red wigglers from The Box of Life so that I can produce some fertilizer to use in my garden next spring. A few weeks in, they are busily at work eating my kitchen scraps!
I graduated from a homemade worm-homes to a BOX of LIFE about 8 years ago, it is a beautiful easy to use worm composting system. They were very helpful and provided answers quickly to any questions I had.
